Unit 9 Signs
主备人   万晓芹
Aims and demands:
1. Master the new words in Unit 9.
2. Learn to say
3. The use of two modal verbs, can, must.

The First Period  Welcome to the unit
I. Teaching aims:
1. Master some new words:
can, play, football, Great! us, why, sign, bring, oh, I see.
2. Learn to say:
  We can play football there.
  Great! Let’s go.
  You can’t play football here.
  Why not?
  Look at the sign.
  Oh, I see.
II. Teaching importance:
1. Enable the Ss to master the use of “can” and “can’t”.
2. Learn to say.
III. Teaching procedures:
1. Revision
1) With some pictures, revise some important words in Unit 8.
2) Revise the use of “Whose   is this/are these?” and possessives.
 Ask and answer: (T---Ss   S1---S2)
Show a student’s pen and ask,
  Whose pen is this? Is it yours? ---- No, it’s not mine.
Pointing at a girl ask the others,
  Is it hers? ---- No, it’s not hers.
Pointing at a boy ask the other Ss,
  Is it his? ----No, it’s not his.
Show two students’ English books and ask them,
  Whose English books are these? ---- They are ours.
Then ask the others,
  Whose books are these? ---- They’re theirs.
2. Presentation
1) Teach some new words.
(1) Show the object to teach new word, football.
Then teach a phrase, play football.
(2) Show a picture with the sign of “Don’t play football here.” and ask,
   What’s this? Help them to say, It’s a sign.
   Write the new word, sign, on the Bb.
   Then ask, “What does it mean?” and continue to ask, “Can we play football here?”
  Write the new word “can” on the Bb at the same time. Then help them to answer, “No, we can’t play football here.”
  Present “can’t” and explain that “can’t” is the negative form of “can”.
(3) Ask and answer like the following,
A. T: Can you bring your Walkman this afternoon?
S1: Yes.
  T: Great!
  Explain the differences between “bring” and “take”.
B. T: Can you play football in the classroom?
  Ss: No, we can’t.
  T: Why not?
  (Encourage them to tell the reason in Chinese.)
  Ss:
  T: Oh, I see.
3. Learn to say
(1) Look at the book, listen and repeat.
(2) Read after the teacher.
(3) Read together.
(4) Read the dialogue according to the role.
4. Practice. Ask several groups to act the dialogue.
5. Exercise:
 According to the initial letter, please finish the dialogue.
 A: Hi,B. C    we p    football in the street?
 B: No, we c   p    football in the street.
 A: W    not?
 B: Look at the s   .
 A: Oh, I s   .
6. Homework
(1) Copy the new words five times and recite them.
(2) Make the similar dialogue in pairs.
